Piece list
All studs are Plate 1×1, part 3024. The number in each swatch is the code used in the build steps. The order quantity adds spares, because 1×1 plates go missing.

Also needed
- 1 × white 32×32 baseplate (LEGO Classic 11026). White matters here because the background shows.
- Backing board, 256 × 256 mm. 9 to 12 mm MDF or plywood, plus strong double-sided tape or grab adhesive to fix the baseplates to it.
- Brick separator for lifting misplaced plates, and 3 small tubs for sorting.
- Optional flat background: 709 more studs to cover in White (BrickLink colour 1). Larger white plates such as 2×8 or 4×8 cover the open areas far faster than 1×1s.
Rough cost
Baseplates are $7.99 each at LEGO.com, so $7.99 for 1. New 1×1 plates average about $0.04 to $0.06 each on BrickLink, so 360 plates come to roughly $13.68 to $21.24. Parts total: $21.67 to $29.23.

Before you build
- Order the plates by part number 3024 and the colour names above from BrickLink or Brick Owl. The wanted list above uploads straight into BrickLink. Confirm stock before paying.
- Sort the plates into tubs and label each tub with its code.
- Lay the 1 baseplates out 1 wide and 1 high and number them on the back, left to right, top row first.
- Build each baseplate on a table before mounting. Each baseplate has four 16×16 sections. Sections with no artwork are skipped, so the steps jump straight to the next one that needs plates.
- On a bare baseplate there are no guide lines. Count studs from the corner of the section, place the darkest shapes first, then fill in around them.
- After every section, press the plates down with a flat book and tick the step off here.
Build steps

Plates for this step
Squares with a dot stay as bare baseplate. Count in from the top-left corner of the section using the row and column numbers.
Finishing
- Cut the backing board to 256 × 256 mm, or larger if you want a border for a frame.
- Fix baseplate 1 square to the top-left corner. Butt the next baseplate tight against it and clip two or three 2×4 bricks across the join before the adhesive grabs, so the stud spacing carries across. Repeat for the rest.
- Remove the bridging bricks and check that shapes crossing a join line up.
- Hang it from fixings screwed into the board. At this size the board is the heavy part, so use wall fixings rated for it.
