Rough cost

The baseplate is $14.99 (LEGO list price). The 573 plates come to roughly $106.06 to $164.67. Parts total: $121.05 to $179.66.

Plates are counted at the 1×1 rate of $0.04 to $0.06 a stud (BrickLink price guide, 21 October 2026). Bigger plates cost less per stud, so the real total is lower. Add seller postage.

Before you build

  1. Upload the wanted list to BrickLink, or the Pick a Brick list at LEGO Pick a Brick (Upload a list). Confirm stock before paying.
  2. Sort the plates into tubs by code.
  3. Each baseplate has nine 16×16 sections. Sections with nothing on them are skipped.
  4. Each step adds one colour. The box shows which plates and how many, and the new ones are outlined in yellow. Count studs in from the row and column numbers.
  5. After every section, press the plates down with a flat book and tick it off.

Finishing

  1. Cut the backing board to 384 × 384 mm, or larger if you want a border for a frame.
  2. Fix the baseplate square to the board.
  3. Hang it from fixings screwed into the board, rated for its weight.
